Something about XBOX
10/02/25
I forget that Xbox exists most of the time. I use a modded 2001 era Xbox for a few things here and there but beyond that the entire thing is a big "?". Really, it comes down to a lack of respect for the brand after having briefly dealt with the 360 and the shit that executive said when the Xbox One was announced. I wonder how much damage that actually caused.
Apparently, Xbox Game Pass is getting a price increase. I don't know anyone with the latest Xbox console, or even it's name off the top of my head. $30/mo to rent games sounds ridiculous though. I pay $50/yr to rent games from Nintendo via Switch Online, and I don't even know whether or not I'm okay with that.
Let's be frank here (as if I'm known for anything but) and say that I don't want the brand to die. That's right, I don't want the brand to die. Microsoft is controlled opposition for Sony, and that keeps them from being 100% on top. Sony has already let themselves go though. the PS5 has nothing to entice me into buying one. Maybe I'm not the best person to discuss this. I don't have much interest in what either of these two are doing.
Seeing the angry reactions to this price increase combined with how I know nobody with a current gen Xbox is kind of sad. I fully understand why people are pissed off, but to see Microsoft recklessly kill their gaming division over the last decade while insisting they're not is disheartening.
Sony & Microsoft: I didn't buy a Switch 2 three months after launch for shits and giggles, or some kind of devotion to Nintendo. I did it because it's clear my family will get use out of the machine, and it has. There are games for everyone there, and their online services benefit my entire household. I will absolutely cancel them if they increase in price, but for now, they're fine. I think my limit is $70/yr for this kind of crap. Nintendo has provided value for my dollar. I have no illusions that they don't see me as some kind of walking wallet. As long as they treat me, their customer with respect while also releasing quality games my family will enjoy, i'll keep buying their products over yours. You need to step up your "games" and get your shit together. Without you, Nintendo has no incentive to be reasonable.
There's nothing Microsoft could realistically do to get me to buy an Xbox after what they did in 2013. Even so, there are people that don't care, and they shouldn't take that as a reason to screw those people further. Microsoft has home field advantage, and there's room to turn it all around with their fans if they play their cards right.
P.S. I'm not a news outlet. I just react to what I see elsewhere. Please do your own research on this kind of thing.
