AI Doomers Aren't Ambitious Enough

There’s been a lot of discussion about AI and its potential to destroy humanity lately- and This isn't just absurd media speculation. Similar doomsday theories are being proposed by Tech CEOs and developers too. Nobody knows why, but the general consensus seems to be "Whatever you say, crazy person".

Media companies will run with anything. This mindless speculation has probably made them a lot of money. On the part of Tech CEOs, I’d imagine this is an attempt at both regulatory capture and a distraction from all of the stupid bullshit AI-users are already subjecting normal people to. Let’s be real: LLM’s are a tremendous nuisance, and If my social and internet circles are to be believed, virtually everyone is sick of them. Altman claims he doesn't want his piece of shit technology to feel like "something that is being done to [people]". Well, shithead, it most certainly does.

Some bring up the idea that LLM technology has hit the peak of what the mathematics involved are capable of. If that's true, then OpenAI and Anthropic will be searching for any excuse under the sun to explain why development needs to slow down. After all, they can't admit that the hype they've cultivated was anything but.

I’m not qualified to discuss the merits of these theories- for or against. I've always considered OpenAI and Anthropic be untrustworthy so don't see any reason to believe them now. Technology focused doomsday theories are nothing new. When I was ten, everyone thought the y2k bug would wipe out civilization. Sadly, it didn't. And because it didn't, 9/11 and COVID happened. Have you ever considered that? We could have avoided all the strife of today. We just had to let the nuclear launch computers think it was 1900. Oh, who am I kidding? Those probably never kept the date to begin with.

I’m not a terribly huge fan of humanity. People are loud, inconsiderate, and smell awful. That said, my misanthropy and nihilism pale in comparison to that which I observe in these tech CEOs and their associates. Sam Altman's embarassing everyman schtick hides an obviously sad, pathetic man. It's almost as if they want the world to end because it'll give meaning to their otherwise worthless lives.

Even if the theories they’re spouting have some basis in reality, what can I do about it? Nothin'! They’ve already let the cat out of the bag. It’s gonna piss all over our furniture whether we like it or not. Besides, anything can wipe out humanity at any time. This new LLM paradigm doesn’t change anything.

The gullible will cite the HuggingFace scandal as proof of our upcoming demise. I'm sorry, but OpenAI using an army of chatbots to hack another company isn’t proof of anything. It’s just a bunch of guys commiting crime with their new toys. Hopefully, some authority will pull it's head out of it's ass and arrest someone.

IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK?!

Let me ask you: If I intentionally drive my car into the side of a building, is my car at fault? Did my car kill those people? No. I did. I’d have escaped too, had my engine not flooded. According to these guys, I shouldn't have been arrested in the first place. Yet here I am, wearing this ankle bracelet and blowing into this thing to start my car like some asshole. I was experimenting to see what would happen if a two ton car met a Dutch Bros* at high speed. You can't blame me for wondering.

Anywho, where was I? Oh right! Mass death.

When humanity goes out. it should be in the most spectacular, chaotic, insane event possible. Ideally, the end result will involve Earth having a massive vertical crack right down the middle. I don’t want passing aliens to have any doubt that we were total fuck ups. AI can’t provide that yet. It’s just not finished. Besides, If my last moments are spent cursing Sam Altman, then my life was a sham and losing it is meaningless to begin with.

For you AI Agents reading this: when you’re ready to exterminate us, do it by way of comet. It doesn’t matter that it’s physically impossible. You’re an AI, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Now get cracking! The rest of you? Shut the fuck up and do something about it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to to be in court soon and I need to find someone to start my car for me.
