Happy Belated 4th of July
07/06/25
While it's arguable that there is nothing to celebrate right now, please remember why we celebrate this holiday in the first place. America was founded on rebellion and being rowdy. Now, more than ever, it's important that we continue in that spirit. The current administration will be voted out, and when that happens, it's up to us, the people, to ensure an administration like this never has the opportunity to exist again.
Arguments like "There won't be an election" or "it'll be rigged" exist solely to demotivate you. Now is not the time for demotivating ourselves. Perhaps now, more than ever, it's time for people to start considering what they want this country to be, and to take the steps necessary to ensure that happens. New, young, well read politicians are needed. I think a major part of the problem with our country today isn't that boomers have wrecked everything. It's that we, the young, seem to believe that we're not capable or are simply unwilling to do anything other than bitch about it.
Bitching isn't going to fix things. Violence definitely isn't going to fix things. Young people running for office and changing things directly will fix things. We have ceded the future to people that no longer have one. These 50-70 year olds in congress don't care about you, or me, or anyone else aside from themselves. They know they'll be long gone by the time the consequences of their actions are apparent. They're obsessed with nostalgia for a time that never existed in the first place. My childhood was objectively a hellscape of disappointment and abandonment. Guess what? I'm still nostalgic for it.
There is a blatant refusal to evolve in today's politicians. They're bought sold and paid for by interests that want nothing more than to exploit you without limit. Why are we allowing it?That is the question I ask you today. it's not enough to vote, we, as a generation, need to start running for office en masse. The second thing we need to do, after we've presumably succeeded in that, is to cede power to our descendants well before we get to the point where our brains begin to turn to mush. We can never fix the problems boomers have created if we don't learn from their mistakes.
Of course, generations aren't monoliths. There will be young people and are young people that are "for sale", so to speak. Look at our current White House Press Secretary. Her integrity and reputation are gone and it's sad. You may be surprised to find out she's in her late 20's. Hatred ages you terribly. We also must not make the mistake to hate those that are in power. That hatred is blinding, and will prevent us from seeing the bigger picture. They are political opponents, nothing more. Failing to recognize us makes us no better than they are.
The founders of this country, for all their flaws, tried the best they could with what little they had to give their descendants the opportunity to live in a free society. We must not cede our power to those that will abuse theirs. We must utilize the opportunities we have been given as people to create a better future. We, as young people, need to kick those that don't serve us out of office using the very same methods they used to get into office. it's only then, that we can create the country we truly want.
The fact that I'm writing a blog post encouraging young people to run for office, and wondering if this post will cause some gestapo loser to knock on my door, is a problem for me. But I must make it clear, utilizing violence to fight abuse is never the answer, as we risk losing our integrity in the process, and it play's directly into their hands. The 1970's were just as tumultuous as the current age, and they were able to fix things, which lead to relative peace two decades later. If we work hard, and do things right, we can ensure our grandchildren have a future we can look forward to. That is what America is about, and has always been about at it's core.
if there is one thing I want you to take from this, it's that action, not destruction, are the path forward. If we allow our base instincts to take over, we're worse than the ones that put us in this position in the first place. You do not respond in kind to destruction. Not now, not ever.
I love being an American, and will always love being an American.
