Zach Hadel and Micheal Cusack have decided to cancel Smiling Friends. The cited reason being burnout, which I can 100% understand. The pair released a Youtube video where they explain what's happening themselves, a testament to their integrity as creators. Two final episodes are to air in April.

Adult Swim had become the "Rick and Morty" channel and Smiling Friends kind of saved it's reputation. After that, the show revived my faith in TV animation in general. I don't think there's a single bad episode within it's three season run. Combining multiple animation styles within the same frame and animating them accordingly is ridiculous levels of dedication to the art. The writing was incredible, too. Smiling Friends truly is an anomaly among the piles slop that TV has become. It figures that the only TV show worth watching would be cancelled. That being said, it's hard work to create something worth watching to begin with. TV isn't exactly the place you'd release something like that anyway. Not anymore. Release models for TV incentivize creating easily digestible garbage.Smiling Friends goes down like a cold glass of water on a hot day and is anything but.

Despite how little there is, the show is pure gold. It's hard to pick, but my favorite episode of the entire series may be the one where they go to Brazil. It's brilliant, and if you've somehow never seen it, go watch it. In fact, go watch the entire series. Each episode is only 10 minutes long. The entire series can be binged in a few hours.

Man, I really hope they release seasons two and three on Blu-Ray or DVD.
